Furrowed Brows: What You Can Still Fix (Even if It’s Been Years)

Have you been living with brow lines for years, unsure of how to manage them? You might have heard a claim that furrowed brows are impossible to correct once the wrinkles reach a certain depth, or that treatments aren’t effective if you wait too long. The good news is that this is just a myth.

The truth is that there are plenty of ways to reduce the appearance of 11 lines and brow lines – even if it’s been years. You don’t even need to schedule a brow lift or spend weeks recovering from an invasive procedure. At Balance MedSpa, we’ve helped countless women manage their furrowed brows using gentle, minimally invasive treatments like the following:

Botox® for Brow Lines

The wrinkles that appear along your brow are known as dynamic wrinkles. This means that they appear, at least originally, when you move your face in a certain way. When you frown, express frustration, or think deeply, the lines intensify. This can cause you to look grumpy or unapproachable, even when that’s not the case.

For decades, Botox® has been the go-to 11 line treatment. It has remained popular for a good reason: it works! Botox® temporarily relaxes the muscles into which it is injected. When the muscles in your brow are relaxed, they don’t cause your skin to wrinkle when you express emotion.

Clients are often amazed by how quickly and dramatically their brows soften with a simple Botox® treatment, even when their wrinkles are “mature.” The results last for months. Plus, with just a few treatments, you begin to “retrain” your facial muscles not to overtighten when you make certain expressions, which can further reduce the intensity of your wrinkles.

CO2 Laser Treatments

Deeper, more mature brow lines are often visible even when your expression is neutral. When this is the case, you may still notice some minor furrowing, even after treatment with Botox®. That’s when treatments like CO2 laser therapy become helpful. Such treatments work by strengthening your skin and improving its elasticity, which reduces the appearance of static brow lines – those stubborn ones that make you look sad even when you’re smiling!

CO2 laser treatments work by removing thin layers of the outer surface of your skin. This reveals the smoother skin underneath, which makes wrinkles less apparent. Plus, the treatment triggers your skin’s own natural healing process, which results in an increased production of collagen. We all lose collagen as we age, and adding some back helps turn back the clock, leaving skin more elastic and less prone to wrinkles, including 11 lines.

From a client’s perspective, CO2 laser treatment is an easy procedure to undergo. You can schedule a treatment on your lunch break. Your skin will be a bit sore and irritated for a few days, and you’ll need to stay out of the sun. However, you won’t need to take time off from work or dramatically change your lifestyle to accommodate a long recovery.

Dermal Fillers

Another option for more intense, static brow lines is dermal filler injections. Dermal fillers work by adding volume to the skin. You can think of them as a direct replacement for the collagen you’ve lost over the years. In some cases, they also stimulate your skin to produce more of its own collagen, leading to long-term improvements.

For some clients with more mature brow furrows, we like to use dermal fillers and Botox® for brow lines. The Botox® helps relax the muscles to address the deeper furrows that affect your expressions, and the fillers ease the lines that remain even when your face is neutral.

In case you’re wondering, it is absolutely possible to use dermal fillers without looking plastic and stiff. In fact, our goal is always to use just enough filler to correct wrinkles while still leaving you with a natural appearance. Clients often remark that they look more refreshed, better rested, and youthful after filler injections.

At Balance MedSpa, some of our favorite dermal fillers are Juvederm® and Radiesse®. Every client is different, and we’ll recommend the filler that is best for you based on your wrinkles, your skin type, and your treatment goals.

If you’ve had furrowed brows for years, it is still possible to treat them without surgery. Botox®, dermal fillers, and CO2 laser treatments can all help smooth your brow lines without making you look stiff.
