Summer can make you feel so awake and alive! But – at least when it comes to your skin – you can have too much of a good thing. By the time September rolls around, it’s not uncommon to be dealing with sun spots, dryness, expression lines, and texture issues from a summer full of sun exposure.
Luckily, there are plenty of soothing, anti-aging treatments that can help reverse summer’s impact on your skin. These skin treatments will not only help you look better in the moment, but will also help slow the aging process and prevent signs of premature aging. So, when summer winds down and the days grow shorter, be sure to visit Balance MedSpa for these non-invasive and minimally invasive favorites.
IPL
Uneven pigmentation is a common concern after a summer of sun exposure. If you’re younger, you may start to notice small patches where your skin looks slightly darker than usual. Some clients say they find themselves reaching for tinted moisturizer or foundation more often to “even out” their complexion.
More mature clients sometimes notice more prominent sunspots that are several shades darker than their natural skin tone. They may rely on concealer or a full-coverage foundation to hide them.
IPL, also called a photofacial, is one of our favorite cosmetic devices for addressing pigmentation issues. This treatment uses specialized lights to selectively heat your overly pigmented skin cells, while leaving the healthy skin alone. In the days after IPL, the discolored skin sloughs away, revealing fresh, evenly toned skin instead.
CO2 Laser Cosmetic Treatments
Carbon dioxide, the gas that you exhale, has some surprising benefits for skin health! CO2 treatments were initially developed as a skin cancer treatment, but practitioners soon found that they were useful for other, more minor sun-related skin concerns, too.
Carbon dioxide treatments basically resurface your skin. They remove the outer layers of skin, which generally consist of dead and damaged skin cells. What’s left behind is fresh, new skin that looks dewy and healthy.
CO2 treatments address several sun-related problems at the same time. They can smooth out an uneven skin texture, address fine lines, and lighten sunspots. Our younger clients sometimes enjoy an annual CO2 treatment each fall as a way of preventing sun damage from accumulating over time. More mature clients love this as an age-rewinding treatment before the busy fall arrives.
Infini® Treatments
Have you noticed some sagging and mild wrinkles developing throughout the summer? Consider Infini® treatments as your fall reset. Infini® is a radiofrequency treatment that activates your skin’s collagen-producing abilities. Since collagen gives your skin elasticity and a smooth texture, Infini® can be really helpful for tightening loose skin and improving overall texture.
Infini® treatments can also be helpful for patients with mild brow furrows. If you’re not quite ready to commit to neurotoxin or dermal filler injections, but you want to smooth your brow while also reversing sun damage, Infini® is the way to go.
Photodynamic Treatments
Photodynamic treatment is also highly effective for rejuvenating summer skin. This treatment takes place in two stages. First, your practitioner will apply an amino acid compound to the skin. Then, a specific wavelength of light is used to activate the amino acids.
The reaction targets precancerous skin cells, discolored spots, and overly textured patches. Photodynamic treatments work beautifully on mature skin, although we’ve seen excellent results on younger clients with sun damage, too.
Botox
If laxity and mild wrinkles are your core concerns after months in the sun, then Botox is a treatment to consider. Many of our clients with furrowed brows find that a little Botox in the fall helps refresh their look. Botox works by relaxing the muscles beneath your skin, which makes those dynamic wrinkles – the ones that appear when you make facial expressions – a lot less obvious.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are another good choice for wrinkles and lines. If your wrinkles are obvious even when your face is resting, then dermal fillers are likely to be a more effective anti-aging choice than Botox.
Aging skin often loses volume and elasticity due to a lack of collagen, and time in the sun can make these changes even more apparent. Injectables, including dermal fillers, can turn back the clock. Plus, the results last for months. We can use dermal fillers to address a furrowed brow, smile lines, frown lines, and more.
We all love spending time in the sun, but sometimes, our skin pays for it! If you’re feeling the effects of sun damage as fall approaches, contact Balance MedSpa for a consultation. We can tell you more about the anti-aging cosmetic devices and injectables we use to reverse age-related changes from sun spots to wrinkles.
