Sound familiar? That’s because furrowed brows are notoriously stubborn. You’re not the only one who hasn’t seen much improvement after trying countless home remedies and over-the-counter products.
There are a few reasons why brow furrows are so tough to manage. For one, the skin along your forehead tends to be thicker than that around your mouth or cheeks. As such, the wrinkles here are “deeper” and less responsive to surface-level treatments.
Furrowed brows also have a unique development process. They usually start off as dynamic wrinkles, only visible when you’re actively moving your face. But eventually, the furrows become more permanent, static wrinkles, that are visible even when you hold your face still.
So, what does this mean? Are you forever doomed to struggle with a furrowed brow? Luckily, the answer is “no.” While home remedies and OTC products may not offer much hope, the following treatments, offered at Balance MedSpa, can dramatically improve the appearance of your furrowed brow line.
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a dermal filler that works especially well along the brow line. Dermal filler, such as Radiesse®, works by adding volume to the skin. By doing so, they make the skin look more plump, taut, youthful, and smooth.
Radiesse is a good choice for brow furrows have progressed to the point of being static wrinkles. In other words, if you can still see wrinkles along your brow when holding your facial expressions in a neutral position, this is a treatment to consider.
Dermal filler injections are great for patients who are in a hurry, and for those who prefer minimally invasive treatments. Many clients at Balance MedSpa have these injections during their lunch break, and they can go right back to work or their daily life afterward. You might have some swelling and redness that lasts a day or two, but most patients don’t find this bothersome or inhibiting.
Another great thing about Radiesse® is how long it lasts. Most patients need injections approximately every 12 months to maintain their results.
Dysport®
Are your brow furrows only obvious when you frown, smile, or make other facial expressions? If so, they’re probably still in their static stage. In a case like this, our practitioners may recommend a treatment called Dysport®.
Dysport® is a neurotoxin. It works by temporarily deactivating the nerve endings that allow for muscular contractions under your skin. By stopping the muscles from moving, it stops the wrinkles from appearing every time you make a facial expression.
You’ve probably heard of Botox®. Botox® is another neurotoxin that works similarly to Dysport®. It can be used to manage a furrowed brow, too, but Dysport® is often a better, more specialized option in this scenario.
As with dermal fillers, neurotoxin injections only take a few minutes to administer and cause few to no side effects. The recovery is fast and easy.
The results of Dysport® typically last about 3 – 4 months, but there’s a lot of variety between clients. If you find your furrows are starting to appear again, you can contact your practitioner for a touch-up. Clients often find that after a few treatments, they can extend the time between appointments and still maintain their results.
Infini® Treatment
At Balance MedSpa, we also love radiofrequency-based treatments. One RF treatment, known as Infini®, is great for improving skin tone and addressing laxity, which are underlying concerns that can worsen a furrowed brow.
With Infini® treatments, your practitioner will insert multiple tiny needles into your skin. These needles will deliver RF waves into your skin cells, which stimulates them and causes them to produce more collagen. What does increased collagen production lead to? Toned skin and fewer wrinkles, of course!
Infini® treatments are a good choice for anyone who doesn’t want to commit to injections. The treatment itself is virtually painless, and you’ll only have mild soreness and redness for a day or two post-treatment.
To address a deeply furrowed brow, you may need a few Infini treatments, spaced a couple of weeks apart. But once you’ve reached the level of improvement you desire, you’ll only need occasional touch-ups to maintain your results.
