Ah, aging. It’s the process by which you become older and wiser, but it’s also the process that leaves you with wrinkles and fine lines. It’s not uncommon to notice these and other changes as you age. Thankfully, you don’t have to let the aging process harm your confidence and self-worth. There are plenty of ways to slow – or in some cases even reverse – the aging process.
With a few carefully planned treatments at Balance MedSpa, you can achieve the more youthful, radiant look you desire. We offer a variety of anti-aging services. Here’s a closer look at the ones we recommend most often.
Microneedling
Microneedling is a treatment that involves inserting many tiny needles into your skin. Your body recognizes these tiny punctures as wounds and recruits its healing mechanisms. Blood flow to the area increases, and the blood brings with it proteins and other nutrients that help build new skin and tissue. In the process of healing these tiny wounds, your skin creates more collagen and elastin – two proteins that give your skin a plump, elastic texture.
What sets us apart is that we use a device called the Infini which combines microneedling and radio frequency to increase results.
Microneedling can help reverse a number of age-related skin changes including:
- Wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Age spots
- Old scars
- Thin and crepe-like skin
What Happens During Treatment?
While microneedling sounds like it might hurt, most patients experience mild discomfort, at worst, during treatment. Your practitioner will likely ask you to avoid harsh skin products, such as those containing benzoyl peroxide, prior to treatment. This will help reduce soreness and irritation.
The average microneedling treatment takes about an hour. Your practitioner will first apply a moisturizer and numbing cream to your face. Then, they will use the microneedling device to create many tiny punctures in the treatment area. You may feel a slight pinching or pricking sensation, but no serious pain. There may be a small amount of bleeding.
Results and Recovery
You can go home or back to work as soon as your microneedling treatment is complete. The treated area may be sore for a couple of days, and you should avoid wearing makeup until the redness and soreness dissipate. Most patients start noticing results within a few days, and results should continue to build over the next few weeks as your skin produces more collagen and elastin. Most patients need 4 – 6 microneedling treatments to fully maximize their results.
Botox and Neurotoxins
Botox is an injectable neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes the tiny muscles beneath the skin. In doing so, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is especially effective at treating dynamic wrinkles – the kind that appear when you smile or otherwise move your face. Common Botox treatment sites include:
- The forehead
- Between the eyebrows
- To the sides of the mouth (smile lines)
- The outside of the eyes (crow’s feet)
What Happens During Treatment?
Botox shots only take a few minutes. After cleansing your skin, your practitioner will give you several small injections in the area to be treated.
Results and Recovery
There is no true recovery period with Botox injections; you can go straight home. While the area may be a little red and puffy for a few days, these side effects should soon fade. A few days after treatment, you should notice your skin looks smoother and fuller. The results of Botox last anywhere from 3 – 6 months.
There are several other neurotoxins similar to Botox. Dysport and Xeomin are good examples. Your practitioner may recommend one of these other injectables if they feel it better suits your needs.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injectables that physically add volume to your skin. They can be used to correct not only wrinkles and fine lines, but also sagging and sallow skin. Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural compound that becomes depleted with age. Your practitioner can adjust the amount of filler they use to create as natural or dramatic a look as you desire.
Common dermal fillers include:
- Restylane, which is typically used for the chin and lips
- Radiesse, which is often used for nasolabial folds and other deep wrinkles
- Juvederm, which is typically used for wrinkles around the mouth, nose, and chin
What Happens During Treatment?
Like neurotoxin injections, filler injections are quick and easy. Your practitioner will begin by cleansing your skin. They may also apply a numbing cream. Then, they’ll give you a few small injections in the treatment area. Some fillers cause a mild burning or tingling sensation when they are first injected, but this sensation fades quickly.
Results and Recovery
As soon as the initial post-treatment redness fades, you can admire your new, more youthful look. The results can last a year or more. When you notice your results beginning to fade, it’s time to make another appointment with your med spa practitioner.
Lasers & Cosmetic Devices
At Balance MedSpa, we also use a number of lasers and cosmetic devices to reverse signs of aging in our clients’ skin. Every device is a bit different, but they all share a few benefits:
- Treatments are typically quick and easy. Some patients even have these treatments done on their lunch breaks!
- Side effects are minor and often include redness and mild soreness.
- We tailor each client’s treatment plan to meet their goals. You may need one treatment, while someone else needs four.
Some of our most-used lasers and cosmetic devices include the following:
IPL: Also known as a photofacial, this treatment targets pigmented skin cells. It heats and damages those cells, causing them to slough off. They are replaced by new, less pigmented cells. IPL is an excellent treatment for age spots, sun damage, and pigmented scars.
ResurFX: The ResurFX™ fractional laser is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative, skin resurfacing technology. ResurFX™ fractional laser stimulates the production of new collagen and elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. Stimulating new collagen production is the key to a more radiant, youthful looking skin. We also pair the ResurFX™ with our IPL to provide added benefit in a complete photofractional treatment.
V-Beam: Patients who struggle with rosacea, redness, and visible blood vessels get great results from V-Beam. This laser-based option targets red skin but does not harm skin with healthy coloring.
CO2 Laser: Our carbon dioxide laser treatment removes thin, outer layers of skin so that your body can replace them with new, more youthful skin. CO2 laser treatments are very effective for patients with overly textured skin.
If the face in the mirror is looking a little less like “you” lately, then it may be time to consider one or more of these anti-aging treatments. Whether you’re worried about wrinkles, fine lines, or discoloration, there are non-invasive treatments that can reverse signs of aging and restore your confidence in your appearance.
