Which Type of Microneedling Treatment is Right For You?

Age spots? Dry patches? Fine lines? Old scars? One of the most common treatments we recommend for all of these common skin concerns is microneedling.

At first, our clients are often surprised to learn that one treatment can target so many different skin problems. We promise we’re not making this up – microneedling really is that versatile! This versatility comes, in part, from the fact that there are several different types of microneedling treatments. Our practitioners can examine your skin, talk to you about your goals, and recommend the type of microneedling that’s best suited for you.

For a little more background, let’s take a closer look at three of the most popular treatments recommended at Balance MedSpa.

Microneedling

This is the tried-and-true classic. Traditional microneedling has become incredibly popular over the past decade and for good reasons. It’s minimally invasive, yields predictable and long-lasting results, and can target multiple skin concerns at once.

This treatment works by targeting your skin’s own, natural healing processes. Your practitioner uses tiny needles to make numerous, microscopic punctures in your skin. This stimulates your skin’s healing process, causing it to produce more collagen and elastin.

Collagen and elastin are two proteins that give your skin tone, elasticity, and a plump texture. As you age, your skin produces fewer of these proteins. This is one reason why wrinkles, fine lines, and loose skin become more common as you age. Microneedling causes a boost in the production of collagen and elastin, which is how it reverses and eases so many of these common skin concerns.

Your practitioner can customize your traditional microneedling treatment to suit your own needs. Maybe you just need a small area treated, or perhaps your whole forehead could use some help. You can expect some redness and irritation after treatment, but this clears up within a few days. Some clients only need one treatment to see noticeable results, while others benefit from a few treatments spaced several weeks apart.

SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen microneedling is a specialized treatment that we often recommend for clients who need very targeted care in a specific area. For example, we may suggest this treatment for someone with an acne scar on their chin, or for someone with fine lines on their forehead.

The SkinPen is a small device that contains many very fine needles. Your practitioner holds it in their hand and can place it precisely where it is needed to treat your skin concerns. The needles are designed to go to the exact depth needed to stimulate your skin’s healing process and natural collagen production mechanisms.

Did we mention this treatment is FDA-approved? It has a great track record of safety, and our clients rave about their results.

The needles in the SkinPen are smaller than those used in traditional microneedling. As such, you may find you have less redness and irritation after this treatment. However, traditional microneedling is sometimes better for managing deeper and more obvious scars and wrinkles, and also for treating larger areas.

Infini® Treatments

While we offer a number of laser and RF-based treatments, one of our favorites is Infini®. This minimally invasive treatment combines the best of two worlds: microneedling and RF treatment. Your practitioner inserts numerous tiny needles into the surface of your skin. Then, RF waves are delivered through those needles.

Infini® treatments stimulate your skin’s collagen production in two ways: by creating tiny punctures, and by delivering RF waves. The RF waves reach the deeper layers of your skin since they’re delivered through the needles.

Patients with skin laxity, complaints of sagging, and lots of fine lines and wrinkles typically love the results they get from Infini®. The results are not instant; you do have to wait for your skin to produce the collagen that leads to that taut, toned look. However, the results are well worth the wait, and it’s really rewarding to watch your skin become more elastic and youthful as the days go on.

Infini® treatments don’t take long to perform. In fact, many of our clients come in for treatments on their lunch break, or while they’re running errands. You can return to work or your other obligations immediately following treatment. In fact, that’s true of all the types of microneedling discussed here.

If you’re struggling with old acne scars, laxity, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, or even a dull complexion, microneedling is a top treatment to explore. Reach out to Balance MedSpa to schedule a consultation. Our friendly practitioners can tell you more about the various types of microneedling and recommend the one that’s best for you.
