Furrowed Brows: Top Do’s and Don’ts For a Smoother Look

For some, furrowed brows develop due to aging. For others, they’re an unavoidable feature present due to genetics. Regardless of the cause, living with a furrowed brow can be frustrating. Others might think you look grumpy, or you may feel that the furrows age your face.

The good news is that you’re not helpless! There are plenty of steps you can take to smooth out a furrowed brow. And there are also a few things you should avoid to help keep your furrows from worsening.

Do: Manage Your Stress

You’ve probably been reminded again and again not to let stress get to you… And that’s because it’s good advice! Stress can age your skin, and it can also directly worsen a furrowed brow. When you’re stressed out, you’ll make more concerned or anxious expressions. Those expressions can cause the wrinkles to deepen over time.

There are many ways to manage stress, so you’ll need to do some experimenting to find what works for you. That might be a jog every morning. Or, it may be a yoga session or some meditation.

Don’t: Skip Sun Protection

Applying sunscreen daily helps prevent age-related changes like sunspots and wrinkles, including brow furrows. When you’re in a hurry, it can be tempting to skip sun protection. But that’s an important “don’t” if you’re trying to smooth a furrowed brow.

If you have trouble remembering sun protection, look for a daytime moisturizer that contains SPF. An SPF 15 product is adequate if you’re just walking to and from the car and spending most of the day indoors. If you plan on spending more time outside, look for SPF 30.

Do: Use a Good Moisturizer

Well-hydrated skin is less prone to wrinkles. And any wrinkles you already have, including furrowed brows, will be less noticeable when your skin is well moisturized.

Look for a moisturizer that is made with high-quality ingredients and is specialized to your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, like so many of us do, a moisturizer made without added fragrances and colors is your best option. Skincare products made with vitamin C, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid tend to work well for wrinkles and aging skin.

Don’t Expect Too Much From Serums and Creams

Over-the-counter wrinkle creams and serums can work well for fine lines and shallow wrinkles. They may help ease the appearance of a furrowed brow in its early stages. However, they are not usually “strong” enough for a deeper, more developed furrowed brow.

Instead of expecting more from wrinkle creams and serums, consider seeking professional treatments. From facials to microneedling, medical spas like Balance MedSpa offer non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments that can make a real difference.

Do: Seek Care Early

The best time to do something about your brow furrows is when you first notice them. If you start addressing them early, you can often help keep them from worsening.

One of the ways we treat brow furrows at Balance MedSpa is with neurotoxin injections. These injections temporarily paralyze the muscles beneath your skin, which helps ease dynamic wrinkles when you make certain facial expressions. If we inject a little neurotoxin when your brow furrows are still shallow, we can help keep them from deepening over time.

Early treatment also means you don’t have to spend as much time worrying about your brow furrows. You deserve to feel confident when you look in the mirror, and a furrowed brow should not interfere with that.

Don’t Jump Straight to Surgery

Have you looked at your furrowed brows, pulled at them a little, and asked yourself whether cosmetic surgery is worth it? Here’s some good news: You don’t usually need cosmetic surgery to smooth out a furrowed brow. Non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments have come so far in the past decade. You can look younger and enjoy a wrinkle-free brow without going under the knife.

Here are some of the top medspa treatments we recommend for a furrowed brow:

  • Microneedling: By inserting many tiny needles into the surface of your skin, we can stimulate collagen production, essentially fighting wrinkles at the source.
  • Dermal Fillers: These injections add volume to the skin, smoothing out furrowed brows almost instantly. Sometimes, we pair them with neurotoxins for more dramatic effects.
  • Infini®: This specialized treatment uses radiofrequency to stimulate your skin, easing wrinkles and sagging.

Keep these do’s and don’ts in mind, and your furrowed brows won’t stand a chance. Contact Balance MedSpa in Orlando if you’d like to learn more about a specific treatment or our client-centered approach. We can’t wait to help you regain your confidence.
